Robert Monteleone AAIPP
Robert Monteleone's first encounter with photography was at the age of eleven with a Kodak film camera. It sparked a passion for creative photography that he still possesses decades later. At high school, Robert was eager to learn more about the art, and studied photography and film developing as an elective subject. With a much better understanding of the basics, Robert upgraded to a 35mm (film) camera and an external flashgun.
After High School, he was accepted into The University of Adelaide where he studied Music, Drama, Media and Film technology. It was at this time that Robert purchased his first SLR film camera and Super 8 Movie Camera, and began shooting weddings and other events. After graduating with a Bachelor of Education degree, he took up a teaching position at Thomas More College in South Australia. He remained there for 9 years, but after going on Long Service Leave did not return, instead taking up a Marketing position in the private sector.
Robert was employed by an importing company with wholesaling, distribution and retail interests. His daily tasks included product photography, advertising photography, event photography and corporate photography, as well as desktop publishing and computer graphics artwork. His position allowed him extensive creative freedom, and projects included designing the company’s multi award winning website, designing and photographing an array of retail product brochures, posters, media releases with print ready photography, preparing magazine advertisements, and contributing photography and content to various national magazines.
Robert produced and published a popular annual automotive publication "CAR TOYS", that was distributed by Gordon & Gotch with a print run of up to 15,000 copies per year. This was sold through newsagents nationally. He wrote the content and designed the layout, and shot most of the photographs. The photography for the early publications was shot using 35mm film, but as digital cameras improved, Robert eventually changed over and welcomed the new digital medium. The Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (A.A.A.A.) judged Robert's publications 'Australia's Best Automotive Retail Catalogue' in 1996, 1997, 1998, 2001 & 2002.
In late 2006 the company was sold and Robert moved on to work for himself. He has photographed and filmed many special events over the years, and his fastidious nature and meticulous attention to detail, together with his artistic creativity endows him with unique photographic skills that have won him numerous professional photographic awards.
